owner of bowls bar
Before Kate moved to Portugal, she has spent seven years working as a restaurant PR consultant and opened a detox juicery in Moscow.
Today Lisbon-based Kate runs her own café and consults a bunch of restaurant projects all over the world.
my preferred spot for a morning coffee
COPENHAGEN COFFEE LAB
Rua Nova da Piedade 10
Excellent coffee (roasted in Denmark) and fresh pastries from their own bakery.
my favourite cultural institution
here’s where I buy my books
PALAVRA DE VIAJANTE
R. de São Bento 34
The "library" where I can spend hours. All the weird stuff related to travelling can be found there: books, games, cards, maps in different languages.
FEIRA DA LADRA FLEA MARKET
Campo de Santa Clara
Open Tuesdays and Saturdays from 9.00 to 18.00
I found the 4-part history of The French Revolution published in 1890 for €50 during my last visit here.
an additional local shop I support
ARTES & LETRAS ATELIER
R. Poiais de São Bento 90
A small shop with unique prints made by the owner and her friends.
this is where I go for a simple dinner with friends
R. do Poço dos Negros 47
A local “tashka” (an old typical restaurant) with a weird interior and the best octopus in Lisbon. It's my favorite spot for any kind of celebration.
here I dine when there’s something to celebrate
Rua D. Pedro V, 129
My favorite spot for a special occasion, but make sure you're coming not later than 3 p.m. as there's a chance it's gonna be too crowded later.
my favourite pizza spot
LA PIZZA DI NANNA
R. Nova da Piedade 68
This place is next door to famous Nannarella ice cream (and run by the same owner) and offers crispy, fresh pizza for take-away only.
my bar of choice
Praça David Leandro da Silva 4
A new bar and restaurant in Marvila. This area is still old-school Lisbon with its traditional vintage shops co-existing with creative offices and galleries.
additional things not to be missed
ELEVADOR PANORAMICO DA BOCA DO VENTO
Take a boat from Cais do Sodre station to Casilhas, turn right to the empty embankment and take a ten minute walk to Elevador to catch a sunrise. This spot has not been discovered by tourists yet and is a great place to overlook the city.
the next person I’d like to read about on creative traveller
Irina Bogushevich in Vancouver (coming soon)
BOWLS BAR, Lisbon
A comfort food place that was one of the first hipster spots in Lisbon. A café based on local products along with a bar offering more than 30 types of homemade infused alcohol and a perfect coffee.
